With nearly 30 years of mechanical CAD design experience, using tools such as Creo, Catia, AutoCAD, and Inventor, the greatest consumption of time for the designer is recreating a COTS part from scratch due to a vendor not having or providing a model for use in your design.
3D Twin Solutions is here to reduce that time by providing the least time intensive digital model you can use in your design. A space claim/mechanical envelope generated from scanned data is the simplest and fastest CAD form to meet your needs.

Tail Light Assembly
SCAN-MESH-IMPORT
Tail light lens scanned using Einscan HX. Meshed using Einscan software. Exported to Geomagic Essentials and post edited using mesh doctor. Added features such as planes, lines, curves and points in order to develope a new alignment coordinate system. Exported as stl file and iges. Both imported to Creo 8 as shown in image.
Reverse Engineered to Creo Part File
The imported stl file was then used to create a new Creo Part from scratch. This was then rendered in Keyshot. The resulting image is shown above. The accuracy of Keyshot's prismatic effects due to geometry is impressive.
Scanned-mesh-import only
Tail light bezel scanned, meshed, cleaned up and imported to Creo 8. Meshed left as imported as a feature in Creo and this was exported to Keyshot and rendered. Note the slight wavyness of rendered image, this is a product of meshing a point cloud.
